
Road Warriors Top Wheeling in Shootout

Greenville, SC: The Road Warriors top the Wheeling Nailers 5-4 in a shootout snapping their six game win streak.
It didn't take long for the Road Warriors to jump out on top of the Wheeling Nailers. Following a turnover by the Nailers, Brendon Connolly took a pass from Marc-Olivier Vallerand and fed Jordie Johnston with a pass for a one-timer goal just 1:36 into the first. The Nailers would tie the game at one just one minute into their first power player of the game with Luke Pither getting the goal that came with 8:25 left in the period. Greenville would regain the lead when Bretton Stamler fired a shot from to the top of the circle that beat Peter Dalmas. Vallerand and Connolly would again get credited with the assists. The Nailers once again tied the game; this time off of a shot by Paul Crowder from the right side of the slot.
Wheeling dominated play for most of the second period. The Nailers would take the lead 3:49 into the period when Zach Hansen found Barton at the bottom of the circle with a quick shot past that beat Scott Stajcer. A few minutes later, Zurevinski scored his seventh of the year to put Wheeling up 4-2 headed into the third period.
Brandon Wong was able to cut the Nailers' lead down to 4-3 with a power play goal 2:19 into the third as his shot just trickled in after Dalmus got a piece of it. Mike Marcou and Sean Berkstresser were credited with the assists. Wong bookended the period with goals as he posted his second of the game with 2:26 left in the period to it at five on a backhander over Dalmas' left shoulder, assisted by the Andrew Yogan and Francis Verreault.
With the game tied after regulation and a five minute overtime, sending the game into a shootout. Wong scored first in the shootout when he faked a shot, skated left, and roofed the puck after Dalmus fell to the ice. Zurevinski would tie the shootout at one a piece before Danny Hobbs scored in the sixth round to end the game with a win for the Road Warriors. Stajcer was the winning goalie with 35 saves. Delmas took the shootout loss with 22 saves.
The weekend of games continue tomorrow against the Nailers at 7 p.m. The first 1,500 fans on Friday receive free sunglasses presented by X98.5 and 97.7 Chuck FM. Hockey Happy Hour begins at 5 p.m. on Friday and includes FREE FOOD, DISCOUNTED DRINKS AND ENTERTAINMENT presented by X98.5, ABC Party Rentals and Tom's BBQ. Saturday the Road Warriors take on the Gwinnett Gladiators after winning the past two games against the South Division rival. The game begins at 7 p.m. and the first 2,500 fans receive a rally towel presented by yp.com.
