Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Toledo, OH: The Road Warriors won their first regulation victory in the month of March with a 4-1 win over the Toledo Walleye.
Ben Youds put the home team on the board just 3:45 into the game. Youds snuck in from the point and fired a one-timer past Scott Stajcer for his fifth goal of the year. Willie Coetzee and Kyle Rodgers collected the assists on the play. Greenville would respond shortly after to tie the game at one. Matt Lowry gave a quick pass to Brandon Wong in front of the net for a deflection goal. The goal was Wong's 24th of the year and the assist was Lowry's first point as a Road Warrior.
The Road Warriors commanded the early stages of the second period. Greenville's forward Ryan Flanigan broke the tie with his fifth of the season. Flanigan closed in on the Walleye netminder, Jordan Pierce, who poke checked the puck but it rode over the stick and into the net. Steve Mele gave the pass to Flanigan for his first professional point. The Road Warriors took a 3-1 lead just 1:12 later with a slap shot from Jordie Johnston for his 18th of the year. The shot was taken as soon as Johnston entered the zone that blew past Pierce.
Greenville was able to put together a solid third period and not allow another Toledo score. The game remained 3-1 until Toledo pulled Pierce for an extra attacker. Lee Baldwin took advantage of the open net shooting the puck from his own blue-line for his fourth goal of the year. Stajcer won his 10th game of the year with 29 saves. Pierce took the loss with 24 saves.
The Road Warriors continue their nine-game road trip on Friday against the Evansville IceMen at 8:15 p.m. ET. The game can be viewed via America One or by clicking the listen live link on the Road Warriors' homepage.
