Arkansas Travelers News Release
FRISCO, Tex - The Arkansas Travelers began a six-game road trip with a 6-1 loss at the hands of the Frisco RoughRiders on Wednesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Jerad Eickhoff (5-5) pitched seven effective innings for Frisco, holding the Travs to four hits and a run over seven innings while striking out six.
Orangel Arenas (5-4) took the loss due to a five-run rally put together by Frisco in the second inning. The first six batters reached base, with help on a throwing error by shortstop Eric Stamets. Odubel Herrera led off with a single and took third when Stamets threw away a grounder from Teodoro Martinez. Arenas walked Edwin Garcia on a 3-2 count, but the last pitch got past Jett Bandy for a run-scoring passed ball. A single by Drew Robinson loaded the bases for Ryan Strausborger, who responded with a line drive double to centerfield knocking in two runs. An RBI single from Patrick Cantwell pushed the deficit to 4-0, and a sacrifice fly by Tomas Telis capped the inning.
Arenas still finished strong with outs from 10 of the last 12 batters he faced. Still, in five innings Arenas was charged with five runs (four earned) on eight base hits and a walk.
Eickhoff was dominant at the end of his start, setting down the last 12 batters of his night after Michael Bianucci doubled to begin the fourth. A dribbler hit by Bandy moved Bianucci to third base, and he scored on the only wild pitch thrown by Eickhoff.
R.J. Alvarez returned to active duty on Wednesday night, and allowed his first run of the year although it was unearned. Cantwell hit a single in the seventh inning and advanced on Bandy's second passed ball. A two-out single by Joey Gallo brought Cantwell home for a 6-1 Frisco advantage.
Buddy Boshers pitched a scoreless inning that included three strikeouts. Jairo Diaz, called up from Inland Empire on Tuesday, made his Travs debut with a scoreless inning including two strikeouts.
Time of game was 2:42 and the paid attendance was 3,948.
The middle of this three-game series is set for 7:05 p.m. on Thursday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Kramer Sneed (4-6, 5.10) is due to pitch for the Travelers against Alex Gonzalez (1-2, 4.50).
