Bridgewater, NJ - The Camden Riversharks shut out the Somerset Patriots 5-0 at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.
The Riversharks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Third baseman Brian Burgamy tripled and scored on a groundout.
Camden extended the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. First baseman Brett Bonvechio singled and Burgamy drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Left fielder Wayne Lydon singled home Bonvechio and advanced Burgamy to third. Shortstop Kyle Haines then hit a sacrifice fly for a 3-0 advantage.
The Riversharks added two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Second baseman Michael Abernathy hit a solo home run (1) to left field. Right fielder Val Majewski singled and later scored on an RBI single by Burgamy to take a 5-0 lead.
Camden starter Ryan Drese (1-0) picked up the win, allowing four hits over five scoreless innings. Patriots starter Kip Bouknight (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing an earned run on four hits in five innings pitched.
Patriots reliever Scott VanEs worked two scoreless innings with two strikeouts in his professional debut.
