Camden Riversharks News Release
The Camden Riversharks won in extra innings. Kieran Mattison recorded the win for the Sharks while Will Cunnane was charged with a loss.
Chris Walker's came through in the bottom of the 11th scored Josh Horn pushing Camden past Newark 7-6.
Josh Horn in his 10th game as a Rivershark went off for four hits including a one-out base hit in the bottom of the 11th inning. Horn then advanced to third on a Juan Francia single into right field, putting runners at the corners. Chris Walker stepped up to the plate next, hitless in the game with a chance to drive in the game winning run. The infield debated whether to play for the double play up the middle or play in for the out at home. Walker ended up chopping the ball towards the shortstop, Randy Gress. The only play was to home plate but Gress let the ball under his glove and Josh Horn crossed home plate for the game winner.
Will Cunnane suffered the loss for the Newark Bears, making his second appearance of the night as game one was suspended and finished earlier in the evening. Keiran Mattison earned the win, also pitching for the second time in the night.
The Riversharks took the early lead in the bottom of the first when Raul Padron blasted a three-run homerun, his 13th of the year. The lead was erased in the top of the second however, as two singles, three walks and a costly error lead to three runs, only one of which was earned.
Padron continued to carry the offense with a run scoring double in the third. Teuris Olivares scored later in the inning on a Sean Smith RBI ground out making it 5-3 Sharks.
The Bears wouldn't give up chipping away with runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, once again tying the game, this time at 5 runs a piece.
The Sharks regained the lead in the sixth inning. Francia singled in Smith making it 6-5 Camden. They carried that lead into the eighth when reliever Tracy Thorpe gave up a solo shot to Tim Raines Jr. eventually forcing extra innings.
It was Walker and Horn playing the heroes in the 11th inning as Camden took game two of the series which is now split at one game a piece.
Game three begins tomorrow at 5:35 PM at Campbell's Field. The Riversharks season concludes on Sunday, September 19th. To purchase tickets, call 1-866-SHARKS-9 or visit www.riversharks.com .
