Camden Riversharks News Release
CAMDEN-The Camden Riversharks erased a 3-0 deficit in the 2nd inning, batting around scoring five times en route to a 7-6 win over the Atlantic City Surf on Tuesday night at Campbell's Field.
The Surf jumped out to an early lead on a 3-run homerun by Ozzie Timmons (8), his third in two games versus Camden. Timmons went 2-4 on the night. Sharks starter Jaime Steward settled down, allowing just one run over the next six innings to pick up the win. The All-Star improved to 7-3 on the season, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out four.
The Riversharks opened the 2nd inning with five straight hits off Surf starter Kyle Goldwater. LJ Biernbaum continued to swing a hot bat, launching a 2-run homerun (7). Newly acquired Marcos Sanchez and Richie Barrett followed with RBI singles. Goldwater suffered the loss, allowing seven runs on ten hits in five innings (6-6).
Trailing 7-4, Atlantic City made things interesting in the 8th inning, when Al Benjamin hit an opposite field 2-run homer off reliever Shaun Babula to bring the Surf within one. Benjamin led the way for the Surf, going 3-4 in the contest.
Wayne Gomes pitched a scoreless 9th, earning his 12th save, and giving the Riversharks their fourth straight win.
Dwight Maness went 2-2 with three runs scored and Jason Fitzgerald chipped in with three hits for Camden, who now is just two games out of first place in the South Division, following Somerset's loss to Bridgeport.
