Kilburg lifts Pride in 11 innings

(Nashua, NH) Joe Kilburg's one-out single scored pinch runner Mike Torres with the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning on Tuesday night to lift the Nashua Pride to a 3-2 victory over the Newark Bears Tuesday night at Historic Holman Stadium. The Pride have now won a season-high eight in a row.

After Newark (31-33) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with single runs in the third and fourth innings, the Pride (40-25) tied it in the fourth on a two-run homer by Brian Becker, his league-leaading 18th of the season. Earlier in the day, Becker was named the Atlantic League Player of the Month for June.

Nashua starter Brian Looney worked eight solid innings, allowing just one earned run. Jason Blanton came out of the Nashua bullpen to worked two-and-two-thirds innings of hitless relief before Goeff Goetz took over in the 11th inning to get the final Newark out. Goetz got credit for his first Nashua victory (1-0).

Giancarlo Alvarado (1-1) suffered the loss for the Bears. He was the fifth and final Newark pitcher of the night.

The Pride and the Bears resume their three-game series Wednesday night at 6:35 PM. Nashua will send left-hander Nate Teut (3-3, 3.29) to the mound while Newark is set to counter with righty Jeff Farnsworth (1-2, 3.96).
