
Riversharks batter Patriots 9-5

Bridgewater, NJ - The Camden Riversharks defeated the Somerset Patriots 9-5 before 5,832 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon. Camden shortstop Junior Spivey went 4 for 5 with two runs scored, a home run, and three RBI in the game.
The Riversharks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a solo home run by Spivey (1).
Camden scored a run in the top of the second when left fielder Wayne Lydon was hit by a pitch and later scored on an RBI single by right fielder Jeffrey Vincent for a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the third, Camden center fielder Christopher Walker walked and scored on an RBI double by Spivey. First baseman Brett Bonvechio then hit a two run home run (1) that gave the Riversharks a 5-0 advantage.
Somerset got on the board in the bottom of the third inning on a solo home run by shortstop Anthony Granato (1).
The Riversharks extended the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Vincent singled, stole second base, and scored on an RBI single by Walker. Walker would come around to score on an error on a single by Spivey for a 7-1 lead.
Camden scored again in the top of the fifth inning. Bonvechio singled and later scored on a dropped line drive to make the score 8-1.
The Patriots cut the lead to 8-5 with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. After three walks loaded the bases, pinch hitter Teuris Olivares hit a grand slam (1) to center field in his first at bat of the season.
The Riversharks added a run in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI single by Spivey.
Camden starter Dewon Brazelton (1-0) picked up the win, allowing an earned run on four hits in six innings pitched. Patriots starter Jared Gothreaux (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs, five earned, on seven hits in four innings pitched.
The 2009 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home with a 7:05 pm game on Tuesday, April 28th against the Newark Bears. The game includes a Job Fair at TD Bank Ballpark.
