
Rivermen Win 12th Straight 6-3 at Columbus Friday

Columbus, GA - The Peoria Rivermen scored two powerplay goals and two shorthanded goals as they beat the Columbus Cottonmouths 6-3 Friday night. The win, Peoria's 12th in a row, ties the longest winning streak in SPHL history with one more game left on the current road trip.
Peoria started the scoring on the powerplay at the 15:03 mark of the first period when Ben Oskroba lifted a puck over Columbus goaltender Shannon Szabados for the 1-0 lead. Columbus tied it at the 7:02 mark of the second from Kyle Johnson to make it 1-1. Peoria got the lead back at the 9:57 mark of the second when Steve Morra converted a shorthanded breakaway to make it 2-1.
Peoria extended their lead at 16:31 of the second when Walker Wintoneak took a puck on the post and beat Szabados to make it 3-1. Peoria extended the lead when Matt Summers redirected a Dave Pszenyczny shot at 2:51 of the third to make it 4-1.
Columbus clawed back into the game with a pair of goals, at 8:03 of the third from John Jackson and Louis Belisle on the powerplay at 11:10 to make it 4-3. Peoria got their lead back to two goals when Connor Toomey took a feed from Steve Morra and made an impressive move across the goalmouth to beat Szabados and make it 5-3 at 17:08 of the third. With Columbus on the powerplay and an extra attacker on the ice for Columbus Brandon Greenside came away with the puck in his own zone and fired it the length of the ice into the empty net to seal the 6-3 victory.
David Jacobson stopped 29 of 32 shots in goal for Peoria to earn his sixth win in as many starts since joining the Rivermen. The rookie started his pro career 0-4-0 in four games with Macon before being waived and signing with Peoria.
