Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Rivermen scored first and never trailed as they bested the Huntsville Havoc 3-2 at Carver Arena Friday night. The win, Peoria's fourth in a row, lifts the Rivermen into first place in the SPHL standings with a rematch scheduled for Saturday night.

Peoria started the scoring at the 4:48 mark of the first period when Dave Pszenyczny's slap shot from the left circle beat Havoc goaltender Kevin Genoe for the 1-0 lead. Huntsville tied the game just seconds later when Nolan Kaiser's wrister from the point was redirected past Peoria netminder David Jacobson to make it 1-1 at 5:03 of the first.

Peoria retook the lead for good at the 15:38 mark of the first period when Mark Corbett's shot from the right point made its way through traffic and into the Huntsville net for the 2-1 lead. The Rivermen added to their lead at the 7:39 marker of period number two when Don Maloney, Jr., dove headfirst to flip a rebound past Genoe for the 3-1 Rivermen advantage.

Huntsville trimmed the Peoria lead with a powerplay goal at the 8:58 mark of the second. With Alec Hagaman in the penalty box for high sticking, John McGinnis beat Jacobson to make it 3-2, but Huntsville would muster only five shots on net in the third period as Peoria held on for the 3-2 victory.

Jacobson notched his first pro win in his Rivermen debut after he had previously been 0-4-0 in four SPHL games with Macon earlier this season. He stopped 24 of 26 shots faced, including 14 of 15 in the second stanza to pick up the victory in goal.
