Aldoff, Pawlick Make History as Ice Flyers Win 4-2

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (14-7-1) used a third period comeback to down the Columbus Cottonmouths (9-10-4) 4-2 Friday night. The win was the 84th with the Ice Flyers for Head Coach Rod Aldoff which moved him past Todd Gordon to become the franchise's winningest coach.

The Ice Flyers carried play much of the first period and outshot the Cottonmouths 14-8 but it was a shot fired by Andy Bathgate that hit John McLean's pads and then trickled under his legs for a Columbus goal with 3:46 left in the frame.

After a scoreless second period, things finally bouncing Pensacola's way in the third. Adam Pawlick tied the game with an unassisted goal for his 69th career Ice Flyers goal with 11:10 left in the third. On the very next shot for the Ice Flyers, Pawlick scored his 70th career goal and passed Chris Wilson to become the franchise's goal scoring leader. That goal was assisted by Corey Banfield and Cole Ruwe with 9:19 left in the period. Joe Caveney, assisted by Pawlick, scored with 5:59 remaining to make it 3-1 Ice Flyers.

Less than a minute and half later, Cody Dion scored his second goal of the season to put Pensacola up 4-1 with 4:34 left. The goal was assisted by Michael Juola and Dean Moore, both of whom were playing in their first game with the Ice Flyers. With Cole Ruwe in the off the ice for roughing and Columbus goalie Shannon Szabados pulled in favor of an extra attacker, the Snakes' Shawn Bates scored a 6-on-4 power play goal to cut the Ice Flyers' lead down to 4-2 with 1:49 left.

McLean stopped 20 of the Cottonmouths' 22 shots to earn his sixth win of the season. Caveney was named the third star of the night and Pawlick was the first star.

The Ice Flyers will take on these same Cottonmouths tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. It will be Social Media/Mascot Night in the Hangar.
