
Rivermen Roll to 2nd Straight Win

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - The Peoria Rivermen ended an opponent's four-game winning streak for the second straight night with a 4-1 victory over the Mississippi RiverKings on Friday night at Landers Center.
The Rivermen struck first just 5:27 into the game on a power play when Jake Trask knocked in a short rebound of an Alex Hudson shot stick-side for Trask's third goal of the weekend and third goal against the RiverKings.
Peoria increased the the lead to 2-0 just 2:40 into the second period when Christian Weidauer slapped a face-off win from Josh Harris in from the right point.
The Rivermen pushed the advantage to 3-0 when Mike Gurtler took a long pass from Matt Summers at the Mississippi line and scored a breakaway with 10:55 remaining in regulation. The RiverKings ended the shutout with 5:50 left when Matt Whitehead swiveled a backhand top-shelf goal on a power play assisted by Leo Thomas and Mike Hayward. Alec Hagaman sealed the win with an empty net goal with just under two minutes left.
Kyle Rank earned the win with 41 saves while Adam Courchaine took the loss by stopping 28 Peoria shots. The Rivermen were 1-for-4 on power plays while the RiverKings were 1-for-5 on the man advantage.
The Rivermen conclude the weekend with a rematch in suburban Memphis with the RiverKings at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. Pre-game on SPHLLive.com subscription video and free audio at www.rivermen.net is 6:45. The Rivermen travel to Louisiana next Thursday and Friday and Pensacola on Saturday before returning home for a weekend series with the Huntsville Havoc on Feb. 6, 7 and 8.
