Ice Bears' First Period Explosion Drowns Snakes

Knoxville, TN - The Knoxville Ice Bears defeated the Columbus Cottonmouths by a score of 4-1 in front of a garish crowd of 4,235 and remain in first place in the SPHL.

The trinity of Eric Satim, Peter Neal, and Frankie Drolet was unstoppable in the first period by dominating the Cottonmouths on both ends of the ice and notching three unanswered goals.

The Ice Bears scored first with a shot by Satim with assists from Drolet and Neal to start off the game. Shortly after, Drolet scored on a power play after a Columbus slashing call at the 15:45 mark and scored again off of a deflected shot at 18:09 to make the score 3-0 going into the second frame.

The Columbus Cottonmouths found their way on the scoreboard when Louis Belisle shot the puck past Knoxville goal tender Bryan Hince cutting into the Ice Bears lead to 3-1. The remaining portion of the second period was a defensive battle with no power play opportunities converted into points for either team.

The final frame remained scoreless until with 1:18 remaining, Satim scored an empty net goal, sealing the win for Knoxville 4-1.

The Ice Bears were led by Eric Satim with two goals and two assists, followed by Frankie Drolet with two goals and an assist.
