PEORIA - The Peoria Rivermen only needed a second-period power play goal to win a defensive battle over the Mississippi RiverKings, 1-0 on Saturday night at Carver Arena.
After a scoreless first period for the second straight night, the Rivermen lit the lamp for the only time of the evening with 8:22 left in the middle chapter when Jake Trask converted a feed from Josh Harris at the bottom of the left circle also assisted by Mike Gurtler on a power play.
The RiverKings emptied their net for an extra attacker for the final minute, which featured a furious flurry near the goal in the final seconds, but Kyle Rank earned his and the Rivermen's second shutout win of the season with 37 saves.
