Rivermen Game Notes vs Mississippi

December 12, 2015 - SPHL (SPHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release

DETHRONED ROYALTY

Last night's victory was Peoria's first in four games against the RiverKings this season, with Mississippi taking the previous three in regulation, all in Southaven, Mississippi. Last season the Rivermen and RiverKings split 10 games, with each club taking five wins during the regular season.

MID-SUMMER(S) NIGHT'S DREAM

Last night's game included a goal for veteran Rivermen winger Matt Summers, giving Summers three goals and four points in his last three games. Before last Friday's game in Mississippi Summers had not recorded a point since Peoria's November 7 win at Louisiana, a span of seven games, two of which Summers missed due to suspension. This season in 14 games Summers has four goals and three assists.

A CASE OF THE WILLIES

Last night's game included a short-handed goal as well as an assist for Peoria winger Chris Wilson, who was acquired in a trade with Louisiana November 25 in exchange for Luke Sandler. Since joining the Rivermen, Wilson has scored six goals and two assists in six games, giving him 12 total points in 16 overall games this season.

THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK

Peoria goaltender Kyle Rank stopped 31 of 33 shots faced in last night's victory to lower his season GAA to 2.19, good for best in the SPHL among active goalies with at least 300 minutes played. Rank's .921 saves rate is also second in the league among active qualifiers. With last night's win Rank is 8-3-1 for the season, including 8-1-1 in his last 10 starts.

WHAT'S AHEAD

After tonight's game the Rivermen will play on the road next weekend in Columbus and Huntsville December 18-20 before returning home for a brief two-game series January 1&2 with the Huntsville Havoc. After that series, Peoria will return to the road for three games at Fayetteville (January 8&9) and Macon (January 10), and will follow that with another road weekend January 15&16 at Huntsville.
