Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria, IL - The Peoria Rivermen and Mississippi RiverKings played to a 1-1 draw through 65 minutes of hockey before the RiverKings won in a shootout to beat the Rivermen at Carver Arena Saturday night. The loss, Peoria's fourth in five games with the RiverKings this season, drops the Rivermen to 10-5-2, good for a third place tie in the SPHL standings.
The first half of the game went scoreless before Peoria opened the scoring at the 10:42 mark of the second period when the Rivermen took a three-on-one break and Walker Wintoneak fed Jake Trask on the doorstep for the 1-0 Peoria lead.
The RiverKing tied the game at the 4:27 mark of the third period when Ryan Marcuz got a puck to the back of the Peoria net for the 1-1 score. The score would hold through the remainder of regulation as well as five minutes of overtime to send the game to a shootout.
The shootout was without a goal after the first three shooters for each side before Mississippi's fourth shoter, Linden Bahm, beat Rivermen goaltender Kyle Rank over the left pad. Peoria's next shooter, Matt Summers, was denied by RiverKings netminder Dalton McGrath. Mississippi clinched the contest when Ian Young, who had been in training camp with Peoria before being released, beat Rank through the five-hole to end the game.
Rank stopped 31 of 32 shots he faced in regulation as he fell to 8-3-2 on the season. With the loss Rank falls to 1-2-1 in four starts this season against the RiverKings.
