PEORIA, Ill. - Dalton McGrath made 25 saves and stopped all four Rivermen shootout attempts as the Mississippi RiverKings (13-4-1) knocked off the Peoria Rivermen (10-6-1) 2-1 in a shootout on Saturday night in Peoria.
After a scoreless first period, the Rivermen found the back of the net first. Just over halfway through the second period, Jake Trask converted on a three-on-one opportunity, taking a pass from Walker Wintoneak and putting it past Dalton McGrath to give Peoria a 1-0 lead.
The Rivermen held that league until the 4:27 mark of the third. Ryan Marcuz tallied his seventh goal of the year when he threw the puck toward Kyle Rank and it slipped between the Peoria netminder's pads to tie the game at one.
After a scoreless remainder of regulation and five-minute overtime period, the teams headed to a shootout. The first three shooters for each team were denied, but Linden Bahm and Ian Young scored back-to-back goals for the RiverKings to clinch the victory.
Dalton McGrath (1-1-0) stopped 25 of 26 shots against in the victory. Kyle Rank (8-3-2) made 31 saves on 32 shots in the loss. The RiverKings were held scoreless on two power play opportunities while the Rivermen did not score on their only man-advantage chance.
The RiverKings return to Concorde Career College Ice at the Landers Center on Sunday, December 27 at 3:05 p.m. for the team's first Pay What You Can Night. All seats start at a minimum $2 anywhere in the building and can be purchased by calling 662-342-1755.
