THE WILL TO WIN

Last night's Rivermen win included a game-winning goal in the shootout by veteran winger Chris Wilson, tying him with Adam Stuart for the Rivermen team lead at 19 goals for the season. Wilson has posted 17 goals and 17 assists in 30 games since coming to Peoria in a November trade with Louisiana. The goal also extends Wilson's point streak to eight games and his goal-scoring streak to seven contests. For his career, the 2010-11 SPHL Rookie of the Year has scored 262 points on 127 goals and 135 assists in 250 pro games, all in the SPHL.

THE MASKED MAN

Last night's shootout win for the Rivermen included 23 saves on 24 shots faced by goaltender Kyle Rank during regulation and overtime, and Rank proceeded to turn away four of five challengers in the shootout period. For the season, Rank's 2.13 GAA puts him first among all active SPHL goalies with at least 810 minutes played, and his .926 save percentage is second among active qualifiers.

THE WHOLE SHOOTING MATCH

The Rivermen enter play tonight second in the SPHL in shots on goal per game this season at 34.45 while leading the league in fewest SOG allowed per game at 28.93 after they out-shot the Ice Bears 36-24 last night, including 15-6 in the first period. In the first period of games this season, the Rivermen have out-shot their opponents 486-354, and out-scored their foes 49-26, each representing the widest margin for any SPHL team in any period this season.

WHAT'S AHEAD

After tonight's game the Rivermen will rematch the Ice Bears tomorrow night, then they will host the Pensacola Ice Flyers March 4-6 for the first matchup between Peoria and Pensacola since the season's opening weekend. Following a trio of games against the Ice Flyers in Peoria, the Rivermen will return to the road for a pair of games March 11 & 12 in Huntsville, followed by three games at Pensacola March 18-20, then Peoria will come back to Carver Arena for a pair of games March 25 & 26 against Mississippi before a pair with the Ice Bears in Knoxville April 1 & 2.
