SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - The Mississippi RiverKings (23-12-7) erased a third-period deficit to force overtime, but the Macon Mayhem (18-22-4) converted in overtime to take the second game of a weekend series 4-3 on Saturday night on Concorde Career College Ice in Southaven.
The RiverKings struck first 6:54 into the first period. Bryan Dallaire's shot from the point was tipped by Max Cook and slipped past Mayhem netminder Garrett Bartus to give the RiverKings a 1-0 lead.
Macon countered with a pair of goals beginning three minutes later. Jake Trask took advantage of a turnover on the penalty kill in the RiverKings zone and beat Garrett Sheehan to tie the game at one. Then, with just over two minutes left in the opening frame, Daniel Gentzler fired a bad-angle shot over the glove of Sheehan to put the visitors ahead 2-1 going into the second.
In the middle frame, the RiverKings tied it back up early. Donald Olivieri skated through the neutral zone, toe-dragged around a Macon defender a rifled a shot past the glove of Bartus 3:58 into the period.
The lead did not last as Vadim Guskov took a pass from Lucas LaBelle behind the net and buried it past Sheehan to give Macon their one-goal lead back.
The third period belonged to the RiverKings as they outshot Macon 11-4. Ninety seconds into the final period of regulation, Linden Bahm carried the puck to the front of the net where he set up Cullen Bradshaw for his sixth goal of the season that tied the game at three and forced overtime.
In overtime, the RiverKings had a pair of two-on-one opportunities, but it was Ryan Michel who took a pass from behind the net and slid it to the back of the net to give Macon their fourth win in as many nights, 4-3.
Garrett Sheehan (9-8-5) stopped 15 of 19 shots against in the loss. Garrett Bartus (16-15-4) picked up the win after turning aside 39 of 42 shots against.
Neither team converted on the power play as the RiverKings had five chances and Macon with just one.
Charles Mosey fires a shot on Macon Mayhem netminder Garrett Bartus on Saturday night. Macon eventually took the game 4-3 in overtime.
