Peoria Rivermen News Release
SUMMERS IN THE SUN
Last night's game included a goal and an assist for veteran Rivermen winger Matt Summers, his third such contest this season. After failing to score a point from November 7 to December 4, Summers now has six points in his last five games. Five goals this year gives Summers 15 to go with 28 assists in 60 games during his SPHL career after he spent several years playing in the Central Hockey League.
TOOMEY COMES TO PEORIA
Last night's game was the Rivermen debut for rookie center Connor Toomey, who scored a goal in his first contest since being acquired last Sunday in a trade with Macon. Toomey's goal gives him four on the season to go with 11 assists in 18 total games in his first professional season.
THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK
Peoria goaltender Kyle Rank stopped 27 of 28 shots in last night's victory to give him his second straight game with only one goal allowed in regular time. Rank leads the SPHL in minutes played (863), GAA (2.02) and ranks second among active qualifiers with a .928 save percentage. In 15 games Rank is 9-3-2 in net, and his 373 saves this season place him third in the SPHL.
THE WHOLE SHOOTING MATCH
Last night saw the Rivermen out-shoot the Cottonmouths 48-28, the second most shots on goal in a single game for the Rivermen this season, trailing only a 49-shot performance November 20 vs Louisiana. The Rivermen are now 7-4-1this year when out-shooting their opponents.
