Rivermen Down Wolves 4-1

The Peoria Rivermen played a complete 60 minutes of hockey as they dismantled the Chicago Wolves 4-1 at Carver Arena on Friday night before 5,451 fans.

Nikolay Lemtyugov opened the scoring 9:43 into the hockey game with his sixth goal of the year, firing a shot over the shoulder of Robert Gherson to make it 1-0 from Ryan Glenn and Nicholas Drazenovic.

Micki DuPont scored his fourth goal of the season on the power play at 18:49 from Jean-Guy Trudel and Trent Whitfield, letting a shot go from the point that beat Gherson between his right arm and body to give Peoria a 2-0 lead after one period of play.

The Rivermen widened the gap at 14:35 of the middle frame when Chris Porter tipped a wrist shot from the point by Glenn, beating Gherson up high for his fourth goal of the year.

Chicago did get on the scoreboard at 4:26 of the final frame, as Jesse Schultz recorded his 11th goal of the year by tucking a wrist shot under the crossbar.

Peoria tacked on an empty-net power play goal as Chicago pressed for a pair of goals late, with Trudel netting his seventh of the season from Charles Linglet at 19:48. Both players extended their point-scoring streaks to five games with the points garnered on the play.

Chris Beckford-Tseu was solid in net for Peoria, stopping 17-of-18 shots for his fifth win of the year, including tough chances against in the first and third periods. Before Schultz's goal in the third period, Beckford-Tseu had run up a scoreless streak of 141:31.

The Rivermen finished the game 2-for-9 on the power play while the Wolves ended the night 0-for-5 with the man advantage. The Rivermen out-shot Chicago 32-18, holding the Wolves to just six shots in each period during the game.
