P-Bruins defeat Bridgeport 4-1

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-1 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Chris Collins, Wacey Rabbit and two goals from Sean Curry. The 21-4-2 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Saturday at the Tsongas Arena against the Lowell Devils at 7:05 p.m. Providence moves six points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack with one game in hand.

In the opening period, Providence began the scoring at the 3:08 mark. While on the power play, Martins Karsums held the puck halfway up the left boards and sent it to Matt Hendricks on the right side of the ice. He took a shot and Bridgeport goaltender Joey MacDonald made the save, but the rebound went right to Curry, who scored. The Sound Tigers tied the game at one at the 6:17 mark. Steve Regier tallied his tenth goal of the season with former P-Bruin Sean Bentivoglio and Drew Fata recording the assists. Providence retook the lead with their second power play goal of the game at the 19:12 mark. Byron Bitz worked the puck from behind the net to T.J. Trevelyan. He tossed it in front of the net to Curry, who shot the puck past the glove of MacDonald and into the net. Twenty-nine seconds later the P-Bruins took a two goal advantage. In the neutral zone Jeff Hoggan tipped the puck to Rabbit. He passed it to Collins in front of the net, who took a shot, which was saved. The rebound came right back to him and he scored. Providence went into the first intermission leading 3-1.

In the second period, the P-Bruins took a 4-1 lead at the 3:24 mark. From behind the net Mark Tobin sent the puck to the right face off circle for Rabbit. He shot the puck past MacDonald and into the net.

After neither team scored in the third period, the P-Bruins went on to the 4-1 victory.

Andy Franck stopped 21 of 22 shots for the P-Bruins, while MacDonald made 21 saves for the Sound Tigers. The P-Bruins were 2-for-9 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
