Falcons beat Aeros 4-3 in a shootoutt

December 14, 2007 - The Springfield Falcons beat the Houston Aeros 4-3 in a shootout on Friday night at the MassMutual Center ending their four-game homestand at 3-1. The Falcons have now won three straight games heading to Portland, Maine for the weekend. Springfield now has a record of 16-9-1-3 on the season.
The Aeros opened the scoring as they received goals from Paul Albers and Benoit Pouliot in the first period taking a two-goal cushion into the first intermission.

In a wild second period, the Falcons cut their deficit to 2-1 when Theo Peckham scored his third marker of the year at 5:56 of the middle frame. Springfield tied the score at 15:30 of the second period when Ben Simon scored for the third consecutive game evening the contest at 2-2. Houston's Pouliot scored his second marker of the game, on the power play, at 18:28 of the middle period giving Houston a 3-2 advantage through two periods.
With 29-seconds remaining in the second period, a line-brawl started after Aeros forward Cal Clutterbuck ran into Falcons goaltender Devan Dubnyk. Dubnyk and Peckham ended up in an altercation with Clutterbuck, while Aeros goaltender Nolan Schaefer skated the length of the ice and confronted an unexpecting Dubnyk.
In the third period, Falcons rookie Viacheslav Trukhno evened the score at 3-3 at 7:54 sending the game to the extra frame. In the shootout, Rob Schremp and Marc Pouliot converted, while goaltender Jeff Deslauriers stopped five of seven shooters.
Springfield's Pouliot was the game's first star, while Houston's Pouliot was the second star, while defenseman Allan Rourke was the third star with two assists.
