
Rivermen Acquire Patrick O'Sullivan from Portland

Peoria Rivermen General Manager Kevin McDonald announced Saturday that the club has acquired forward Patrick O'Sullivan on loan from the Portland Pirates. In exchange, forward Brett Sterling has been loaned to Portland for the remainder of the season.
O'Sullivan, 27, had a goal and an assist on Friday night to bring his season totals to 10 goals and 20 assists in 26 games for the Portland Pirates. He has also appeared 23 NHL games with the Phoenix Coyotes and recorded four points (two goals, two assists).
Last season, O'Sullivan joined the Houston Aeros for their playoff run and tallied 48 points (19 goals, 29 assists) in the season's final 36 games. He added another 18 points (four goals, 14 assists) in 24 playoff games with the club.
Since bursting on the scene by winning the AHL Rookie of the Year Award (Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Award) in 2005-06 with Houston, O'Sullivan has split his time between the AHL and NHL. In 181 career AHL games with Houston, Manchester and Portland, the 5-foot-11-inch, 189-pound winger has 94 goals, 116 assists for 210 points. During his time in the NHL with Los Angeles, Edmonton, Carolina, Minnesota and Phoenix he appeared in 334 games and registered 161 points (58 goals, 103 assists).
Originally selected in the second round, 56th overall, by the Minnesota Wild in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, O'Sullivan played his junior hockey with the Mississauga IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League. During the 2001-02 season, he was named the OHL and Canadian Hockey League Rookie of the Year with 92 points (34 goals, 58 assists) in 68 games.
