
Dan Sexton's Hat Trick Lifts Crunch

Syracuse, N.Y. - Dan Sexton completed a hat trick in the third period, sparking a four-goal rally to lift the Syracuse Crunch to a 6-4 victory of the St. John's IceCaps tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
The IceCaps got out to an early 1-0 lead after Spencer Machacek beat Crunch goaltender Iiro Tarkki off of a behind the net pass from Brett Festerling just 1:24 into the first period.
Crunch left wing Luca Caputi tied the game 7:09 into the first period after stuffing a rebound past IceCaps netminder David Aebischer from the right side.
At the 11:24 mark of the first period, Pat Maroon was sent off to serve two minutes for hooking, putting the IceCaps on their first power play of the night. Jason Desantis capitalized on the man advantage by blasting a slap shot over the top of Tarkki's helmet from the left point to break the tie and put the IceCaps up 2-1.
Dan Sexton scored his first of three goals at the 14:49 mark of the first, sending both teams into the first break with the score knotted 2-2.
Nine minutes into the second period, Kyle Cumiskey was called for tripping, putting St. John's on their second power play of the period. Firing from the low slot, Jason King netted the second power- play goal of the night for the IceCaps, putting them up 3-2.
With 2:42 remaining in the second, the IceCaps capitalized on anther power-play opportunity. Ben Maxwell lit the lamp after his shot hit the goalpost and deflected into the goal. Maxwell's goal extended St. John's lead to 4-2.
The Crunch scored four unanswered goals in the final frame beginning with Sexton's second goal of the game 2:56 into the period. Sexton completed the hat trick with 6:32 remaining in regulation.
Right wing Kyle Palmieri extended his team-leading six game point streak when he notched tonight's game-winning goal with 2:40 remaining in regulation. Brandon McMillan added an empty net goal to complete the Crunch comeback and secure a 6-4 win.
