Mississippi RiverKings News Release

This weekend begins the longest road trip of the season for the RiverKings, a total of eight games from November 21st to December 6th. Mississippi will not return to the DeSoto Civic Center until December 12th against the Texas Brahmas. In between, the RiverKings will play at Tulsa, Corpus Christi (three games in two separate visits), Laredo, Rio Grande Valley, and two games with the expansion Rapid City Rush in South Dakota.

Friday, November 21st, the RiverKings open the road trip playing for the first time ever at the brand new BOK Center in Tulsa. It will be the second meeting of the season for the RiverKings and Oilers and comes on the heels of Tuesday night's 3-1 RiverKings victory over the Oilers at the DeSoto Civic Center. After tonight, the RiverKings will not play at Tulsa until a December 27th visit to the BOK Center.

Saturday, November 22nd, Mississippi heads to Corpus Christi for the first time this season. Last year, the RiverKings met Corpus Christi three times and won all three encounters, once in Texas (4-1), and twice in Southaven (6-2, 6-1). Among active RiverKings, Darrell Stoddard scored one goal and had four points against CC last year. Louis Dumont scored a goal and added two assists in the three games against Corpus Christi last year. The teams next meet for a two-game weekend series in Texas on November 28th and 29th.

Oilers Capped in Mississippi Tuesday Night

The RiverKings claimed a Tuesday night contest against the Oilers at the DeSoto Civic Center by a final score of 3-1. Mississippi was aided by two power play goals to offset a 40-save performance from Tulsa goaltender Kevin St. Pierre. Garrett Larson and Bobby Chaumont scored power play goals, with Chaumont's second-period goal becoming the eventual game-winner nearly 18 minutes into the period. Dane Marshall added an insurance goal with less than two minutes remaining in the game for the final result. Kevin Beech stopped 23 of 24 Tulsa shots on goal for his second straight victory. Mississippi was 2-for-5 on the power play, while Tulsa was scoreless in four chances.

Special Teams

Mississippi scored twice on the power play in Tuesday's victory against Tulsa, the first time in three games the RiverKings have scored more than one power play goal. The last time Mississippi had a multiple-power play goal night was on November 12th in their 4-3 loss at Bossier-Shreveport. The RiverKings scored three times with the man advantage in a 6-2 win at Wichita on November 8th.

Their penalty kill perfection (0-for-4) against Tulsa was the first time this season Mississippi has shut out an opponent on the power play.

Chaumont Leads RiverKings Goal Scorers

Entering the weekend slate of games, forward Bobby Chaumont led the RiverKings in scoring with eight goals. Four of Chaumont's goals have come on the power play. Three of his eight goals have occurred in the team's last two games, both victories, and Chaumont has also scored power play goals in each of his last two appearances. Chaumont, a 6-foot, 200 pound forward, is a native of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, and played with Dayton of the ECHL last season.

Assist Me, Please

Louis Dumont and Jeff Nelson each have eight assists to lead the team in that category. Matt Summers, Garrett Larson and David Simoes each have six helpers with the RiverKings, but Summers has actually totaled nine for the season when his three assists with Laredo are figured in.

Streaks

Mississippi has a two game winning streak entering this weekend's play with their victories against Oklahoma City last Saturday and the win against Tulsa on Tuesday night.

Goaltender Kevin Beech is also on a two-game winning streak. Beech allowed one goal in the victory over Tulsa Tuesday night, the fewest number of goals he's allowed in a game this season. Beech has played in ten straight games in goal for the RiverKings and has appeared in eleven of the team's 12 contests this season.

Bobby Chaumont has scored three goals in his last two games and has scored the game-winning goal in both contests.

Matt Summers has two assists in his last two games after a helper on Chaumont's game-winning goal Tuesday against Tulsa.

Jeff Alcombrack has three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in his last two games, assisting on Garrett Larson's first period goal Tuesday against Tulsa.
