Mississippi RiverKings News Release

Southaven, MS ---The Arc of the Mid-South is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocacy, awareness and services for individuals with developmental disabilities, and their families throughout the tri-state area. The RiverKings game this Friday night, against the Youngstown Steelhounds at 7:05pm at the DeSoto Civic Center, will feature the Arc of the Mid-South as the night's nonprofit.

The Arc of the Mid-South strives to empower people with developmental disabilities to achieve their full potential.

"Our organization provides career development and job placement services, as well as personal assistance services and advocacy services," Ndi Onukogu, Events and Development Coordinator for the Arc of the Mid-South, said.

Some of the personal assistance services they offer include: direct care staff, summer camps, and weekend retreats.

"Our weekend retreats provide care givers a weekend away," Onukogu explained. "The care giver drops off the child/adult to us, and we see that he/she spends their weekend with other individuals with disabilities."

Focused on getting these individuals out into the community, the Arc of the Mid-South is dedicated to finding jobs for individuals with developmental disabilities. The Arc also works with these individuals on appropriate interviewing techniques, work behavior, hygiene, grooming and budgeting skills.

The Arc of the Mid-South will have a table on the concourse during the RiverKings game Friday night, where they will be pushing membership and passing out information regarding their organization.

"We are excited to partner with the RiverKings," Onukogu said. "We really want to utilize this event to make our agency known. Our office has been in the Memphis area for 55 years and many people do not know anything about the organization. We feel this night will help us get our name out."
