Rage Back on the Winning Track

December 6, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Wichita - Behind two goals from Tyler Butler and 20 saves from goaltender Scott Reid, the Rocky Mountain Rage defeated the Wichita Thunder at the Kansas Coliseum, 6-2, snapping their first two-game winless slide of the season.

The Rage drew first blood skating on the power play to take a 1-0 lead through the first period. Brent Cullaton set-up Butler, who scored on a one-time slapshot from the top of the left circle at 11:03. Cullaton's assist and Butler's goal extended a point-scoring streak for both players to a team-record 10 consecutive games.

Rocky Mountain then broke the game open in the second period by scoring the quickest four goals in team history. Simon Watson (5:34), Butler (6:43), Scott Wray (9:13), and Chip Dunleavy (10:03) all scored 4:29 apart, besting the old mark of 7:20 set during the team's inaugural game last season. Wichita finally solved Reid at 12:25 on the power play to spoil any shutout bid and pull within 5-1 through 40 minutes.

Each team tallied once in the third period - Wichita's Daniel Tetrault at 4:15 on the power play and Rocky Mountain's Daymen Rycroft at 15:33 - for the 6-2 final.

The Rage stand 13-2-2 on the season with 28 points, moving them seven points ahead of the second-place Colorado Eagles atop the Northwest Division.

Rocky Mountain now returns home to Broomfield Event Center to battle the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Friday, Dec. 7, before clashing with the Thunder again on Saturday, Dec. 8. Both games begin at 7:05 p.m.
