RiverKings Sixth in Yellow Book CHL Coaches Poll

(Southaven, MS) -- The Mississippi RiverKings are ranked sixth among the 16 teams in the latest Yellow Book CHL Coaches Poll, released today from the Central Hockey League. Mississippi has a 27-14-2 record after last night's 9-2 victory over the Wichita Thunder at the DeSoto Civic Center.

The ranking is a drop of one spot for the RiverKings in the poll, done bi-monthly during the regular season among the CHL coaches. The fifth-place ranking in the previous poll was the highest placing in the rankings for the RiverKings, currently standing in third place in the Northeast Division and fourth in the Northern Conference.

Northern Conference leader Colorado stands again as the number one ranked team in the poll, garnering 14 first place votes and 149 points, It's the fourth straight poll for the Eagles (34-7-2) at number one and they lead second-place Rocky Mountain in the Northwest Division standings by 20 points.

Southwest Division leader and Southern Conference co-leader Odessa is ranked second, moving up two spots from the last poll. The Jackalopes received the remaining two first place votes and 129 points in the balloting.

Southeast Division leader Texas ranks third in the latest poll, nine points below the Jackalopes. They are followed in fourth spot by Oklahoma City (107 points) and by Bossier-Shreveport in fifth place (95).

The rest of the top ten are in order, Mississippi, Laredo, Rocky Mountain, Rio Grande Valley, and Arizona.

No teams dropped out of the top ten from the last poll taken in mid-January.

Mississippi's next game is Friday night, when the RiverKings host the Odessa Jackalopes at the DeSoto Civic Center.
