RiverKings Sign Two College Defensemen

SOUTHAVEN, Miss – The Memphis RiverKings have signed two players for their 2003 post-season run. The ‘Kings signed a pair of defenseman, Tim Schneider and Greg Amadio, both out of the U.S. college ranks. Memphis will open the 2003 CHL Playoffs at home this Saturday night against the Northwest Division champions, the Oklahoma City Blazers. Even though the ‘Kings are the lower seed they will host Game One of the best of five series due to a building conflict at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. Schneider, a native of Devils Lake, ND, is 6'2, 225 pounds and brings a big shot to help the power play. Schneider's slapshot was clocked at 97 mph in college and he has championship experience as a member of the Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets 2002 NCAA Division III national champions. This past season he tallied six goals and five assists to go along with 58 PIM.

Amadio, a native of Sault Ste Marie, Ont., is 6'2, 220 pounds and played his college hockey at Michigan Tech. Amadio had three assist in 23 games. Amadio was a second generation player at Michigan Tech, his father Ron played for the Huskies in the 1969-70 season. Amadio also joins A.J. Aitken and Brad Mueller as former Huskies on the current RiverKings roster.

"We continue to try to get bigger," RiverKings head coach Doug Shedden said. "Both of these guys have good size and can move well. I heard about Schneider's shot from his college coach and then we saw it yesterday in practice. He has a real bomb from the point."

RiverKings season ticket holders receive free parking during the playoffs. The parking pass for the regular season will be used for the post-season as well.

This Saturday when the ‘Kings take on the Oklahoma City Blazers the first 2,000 fans through the doors at the DCC will receive Cheer Stixs courtesy of Cellular South. Welcome to the Cellular South. Also there will be live music during the pregame in the courtyard of the DCC provided by BlueGauge.
