Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, Miss â The two-time defending CHL Champion Memphis RiverKings begin the final fourth of the season Friday night with a crucial three game stand at the DeSoto Civic Center, facing off against a pair of division leaders in back to back games this weekend against Bossier-Shreveport and Colorado.
The âKings also welcome back goaltender Rick Nichol in preparation for a climactic weekend that could go a long way towards deciding a heated three-way scrap for the Northeast Division title, as well as playoff positioning heading into the post-season.
Nichol, who served as the RiverKings' backup goaltender earlier this season, will serve again in that capacity for the team during this weekend. Nichol played in one game for Memphis during that stretch, picking up a crucial win at Fort Worth. Nichol for the season has a .917 save percentage and a 3.00 GAA.
The RiverKings will look to find a way to battle past a Bossier-Shreveport team that has managed to edge out the âKings in three consecutive hard-fought battles. A return to the friendly confines of the DCC could not come at a better time for the âKings, as the Kings have posted a 12-7-3 record this season at home.
The Mudbugs hold a 10 point lead over the âKings in the Northeast Division, but the four head to head contests remaining between the two teams leave the RiverKings with plenty of opportunities to close the gap.
Saturday's contest pits the RiverKings against a Colorado Eagles team that has put some distance between itself and the rest of the Northwest Division. The RiverKings are 1-1 versus the Eagles this season, having won the first-ever meeting between the franchises 6-4 before losing 5-2 in the follow-up game.
Both games will begin at 7:05 pm CST at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, MS.
All 64 RiverKings games can be heard on Easy 680 AM, as well as worldwide via SportsJuice.com. RiverKings games can also be heard inside the DeSoto Civic Center on FM frequency 107.9 FM.
