CHL Names Sherwood Player of the Month, Vaughn Goaltender of the Month for January

Published on February 5, 2004 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

The Laredo Bucks are on pace to shatter several Central Hockey League records this season, and center Jeff Bes has played a significant role in their achievements. Bes, currently leading the CHL in scoring with 89 points, had 10 goals and 22 assists in 13 January contests to earn selection as the Sherwood CHL Player of the Month. The Bucks posted an 11-0-2 record during January, and Bes registered at least a single point in each contest. In nine contests Bes recorded multiple points, including back-to-back four point performances in wins over San Angelo and Austin January 3rd and 7th. Three of his 10 January goals were game winners, while two were scored on the power play and one shorthanded. The current CHL plus/minus leader at +37, Bes has yet to miss a game this season, and is averaging 1.93 points per contest, putting him on pace to finish the season with 40 goals, 84 assists and 124 total points.

The expansion Colorado Eagles have enjoyed a fine season to date, currently holding a 14 point lead in the CHL's Northwest Division. The stretched their lead in January in large part due to the play of veteran goaltender Ryan Bach, the January recipient of the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Month award. The Eagles posted wins in nine of 12 January games, and Bach was the winning goaltender six times, finishing the month with a record of 6-2-1. More impressively, Bach led all CHL goaltenders during the month with a 1.44 goals against average, coupled with a sparkling save percentage of .943. His 24 wins leads the CHL, and he recorded his third and fourth shutouts (January 2nd vs Oklahoma City and January 10th vs Odessa) to earn a share of the shutout lead with Rio Grande Valley's Jeff Levy. A 1992 selection by Detroit in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft, workhorse Bach also leads the CHL in minutes played at 2284:48.
