Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN --- The Memphis RiverKings drop the puck on their 15th season tonight at the DeSoto Civic Center when they host the Youngstown Steelhounds at 7:05. It will be the first of 12 meetings this season and the second straight year that the RiverKings have played Youngstown in their first home game of the season. The RiverKings are 6-8 all time in season openers but are 3-0 when opening the season at home and 12-1-1 in home openers.

Here are some notes heading into the home opener:

Head Coach McCelland announced Friday that team has signed former Holy Cross leading scorer Tyler McGregor to a try out agreement and have placed him on the extended training camp list. McGregor joins defenseman Will Bodine, who also was signed to a try our agreement and placed on the extended training camp list on Thursday. McGregor completed a spectacular college career at Holy Cross last season as he led the team in scoring (26-28-54 in 38 games) and helped lead the team to an upset win over Minnesota in the NCAA Tournament and gain a berth in the regional final. His 54 points were good for sixth nationally as he finished his Crusader career with 70 goals and 67 assists in 143 games.

RiverKings goalie Ben Conway was a teammate of McGregor's at HC. Teams can hold up three players on the extended list through Tuesday.

McClelland also announced that the team has renewed it's affiliation with the New York Rangers (NHL) and the Hartford Wolfpack (AHL) for this season. This makes it the second consecutive season that Memphis has been an affiliate of the Rangers organization.

"We are looking forward to continuing our great working relationship with the Rangers and the Wolfpack," Alternate Governor Dave Mattice said. "Whether it's them sending us a player, the RiverKings developing players for them or scouting the CHL for them, each side is committed to helping the other in any way possible."

Tonight is the first of 29 promotional giveaways during the regular season. The first 1,500 fans will receive Miller Lite RiverKings magnetic schedules.

Tomorrow night, the first 1,000 fans 12 and younger will get a Youth Hockey Stick courtesy of Salt Solutions. Upon entering the arena, the young fans will receive a coupon that will be redeemable for a stick at the conclusion of the game. The coupon will also allow the child into the exclusive autograph session that will follow the game and be only for fans with the promotional sticks. The child receiving the stick must be present at the door to receive the coupon prior to the game.

The RiverKings also have a new post game party location. After every home game this season, fans are encouraged to head over to the just-opened Buffalo Wild Wings on Airways Blvd, a block north of Goodman Road. Players and staff will be there to mingle and talk about that night's game.
