RiverKings rally past Mudbugs, 2-1

Ryan Held and Steve Makway scored 58 seconds apart late in the third period to lead the Mississippi RiverKings over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 2-1 at CenturyTel Center in Bossier City, La. last night.

Held took a cross-zone pass from Derek Landmesser and beat Mudbugs goalie John DeCaro over the glove hand from the right wing side with 7:55 remaining in regulation to tie the game for the RiverKings.

With 6:57 to go, the Mudbugs allowed Makway to skate from his left point position to the top of the circle, where he blasted a shot past DeCaro through the 5-hole.

The RiverKings got 27 saves from Sebastien Centomo, including 15 in the first period. They improved their record to 2-1.

For the second straight game, the 'Kings surrendered a shorthanded goal. Brett Smith scored with 3:03 to go in the second period on a breakaway. He went to the backhand and then beat Centomo over the right shoulder with the forehand.

DeCaro made 23 saves for the 'Bugs, who dropped to 0-3 on the season.

Mississippi went scoreless on the power play in seven chances. Bossier-Shreveport did not score during any of their six chances.

The RiverKings will host the Tulsa Oilers at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
