Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Laredo rookies Brent MacSween and Andrew Dejardins each scored a pair of goals on Friday Night as the Laredo Bucks topped the Corpus Christi Rayz 7-0. The Rayz failed to play the role of spoilers in the Bucks home opener and dropped to 1-2 on the season. Corpus Christi will now return home for a pair of home games Saturday Night and Sunday afternoon. On Saturday Night, the Rayz host the Youngstown Steelhounds on Harley Davidson Men's Night, presented by Classic Rock 104.5FM. Then on Sunday afternoon, the Rayz biggest rivals, the Laredo Bucks, make their way to Corpus Christi for the first time this season for a Family Halloween Festival on Caller-Times Family Day. Tickets for both games are currently on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets - including HEB Plus and ticketmaster.com - and the American Bank Center Box Office. For more information, please call the Rayz at 361.814.PUCK.
The clubs opened the game with a wide open, scoreless opening frame with Laredo outshooting Corpus Christi 15-7.
In the second the Bucks found the scoring touch. The Bucks tallied three times to take a 3-0 lead into the third. Rookie Brent MacSween got the scoring started at 4:27 with his fourth goal of the season from the left circle. The Bucks made it 2-0 when Adam Rivet's shot went off of Jason Tapp's glove and into the net at 11:58. Just 86 seconds later, with the Bucks shorthanded, Serge Dube picked off a pass at the Bucks blue line and skated down the ice before wristing a shot just over the shoulder of Tapp to cap the second period scoring. The Rayz outshot the Bucks 17-10 in the frame, but the Bucks took the lead into the final period.
In the third period, the Bucks poured on four more goals en route to their fourth straight win to open the season. MacSween got his second of the night on a power play at 4:27 which closed the door on Tapp. Kevin Couture then came in and faced a barrage of scoring opportunities, surrendering three. Dejardins scored two straight goals at 7:30 and 9:33 to make the score 6-0 Bucks and Laredo completed the scoring at 10:27 when Matt Summers scored his third of the year.
Tapp made 26 saves on 30 shots, falling to 1-2 on the year, while Couture made two saves on three shots and did not figure into the decision. Dustin Traylen made 27 saves for his first shutout of the year and upped his record to 3-0. The Bucks outshot the Rayz 35-27. The Rayz were 0-6 on the power play and the Bucks were 1-6.
The Corpus Christi Rayz return to home ice next Saturday and Sunday with games against the Youngstown Steelhounds and Laredo Bucks. Saturday is Harley Davidson Men's Night, presented by Classic Rock 104.5FM. Sunday at 3:05pm is Caller-Times Family Day. Tickets for both games are on sale now. Get yours today.
