Columbus, GA - The Mississippi RiverKings rebounded from a tough loss last night as they knocked off the Columbus Cottonmouths 6-3 to solidify a place in the SPHL playoffs.

The 'Kings got on the board first as Matt Whitehead intercepted a Columbus pass in the slot and beat Andrew Loewen five-hole to give the visitors the 1-0 lead just 6:50 into the game. Kyle Lundale pushed the RiverKings' lead to two at the 19:14 mark of the first with a wrist shot from the point through traffic as the 'Kings dominated on the scoresheet and in the physical play.

Columbus cut the RiverKings lead to one as David Amesbury put one past Scott Darling from the slot just 3:28 into the second period.

But the 'Kings regained their two-goal lead a minute and a half later as Chev Wilson scored on the power play from Whitehead and Darrell Stoddard at the 5:09 mark of the second frame.

The two teams traded goals in the last four minutes of the middle period. Jordan Braid scored for Columbus with the man advantage to cut the RiverKings lead to 3-2 at the 16:03 mark. Two minutes later, Darrell Stoddard scored on a shorthanded breakaway as the 'Kings went up by two again. Peter MacDougall finished the scoring in the period with another power play goal for the Cottonmouths as the RiverKings went into the second intermission leading 4-3.

The scoring subsided until the final minute of the game as Mark Magnowski scored on the power play at the 19:01 mark to give the RiverKings an insurance marker. Ken Selby finished it off with a goal as time expired on the power play as the RiverKings took the 6-3 win in Columbus.

The RiverKings dominated the power play opportunities as they went 4-10 with the man advantage. Columbus was 2-7 on the power play.

Scott Darling (14-16-1) picked up the win as he stopped 22 of 27 shots against. Andrew Loewen (12-9-2) took the loss, stopping 30 of 36 shots.

The 'Kings hit the ice tomorrow night as they look to jump over the Louisiana IceGators in the standings against the 'Gators in Lafayette. The game will broadcast live on Radio Memphis and the America One television network at 7:05.
