Southaven, MS --- Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. This Friday night the RiverKings face off against division rivals the Texas Brahmas at 7:05pm at the DeSoto Civic Center, where they will highlight the work of the local Kiwanis club.
The Kiwanis Club of Southaven signed their charter on December 6, 2007, becoming one of over 8,000 clubs worldwide. Kiwanis has clubs in over 90 countries, with more than 260,000 adult members and over 300,000 youth members.
"Kiwanis is 100% volunteer and non-profit," said Jason Horn, President and Founder of the Southaven Club. "Our account has grown from $800 to $1,500 since signing our charter."
The club is currently raising money to put defibrillators in DeSoto County Schools.
"100% of the money our organization raises stays within DeSoto County," Horn explained. "No money is taken out to pay administration fees. Our goal is and always will be to raise money for the children."
"We are excited to participate with the RiverKings Feature Non Profit of the Night program," Horn commented. "We really want to use this night to get exposure and promote the community service that the organization performs here within DeSoto County."
All Kiwanis clubs strive to develop, through guidance and example, future generations of leaders. Every day, Kiwanians are helping shelter the homeless, organize youth-sports, tutor, build playgrounds, raise money for pediatric research, and so much more.
The Southaven Kiwanis Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month at 5:30 pm at Italia Pizza Cafe, and on the first and third Thursdays of the month at Hueys at 7:30am.
