Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs won their ninth consecutive home game and moved to 4-0 against the Tulsa Oilers this season with a 3-1 win on Tuesday night at the CenturyTel Center.

Ken Carroll was the first star for the second straight home game, making 33 saves in the contest to win his fourth in a row between the pipes. Elias Godoy, Joe Ori and Brett Smith scored goals for Bossier-Shreveport, who passed Texas for third place in the Northeast Division.

The first period started with some fast paced action in both directions, with both goaltenders having to make quality saves early on. Bossier-Shreveport opened the scoring on a defensive zone turnover by the Oilers. Tulsa was about the clear the zone when Kevin Cooper hit the Oilers defenseman in the corner. That freed up the puck for Elias Godoy, who walked in on Kevin St. Pierre and put it through the five hole to put the ‘Bugs on top. Tulsa had a number of good scoring opportunities in the period, ending up with 17 shots on goal, but Ken Carroll was there to make a number of big saves to preserve the 1-0 lead after one.

Heading into the second period, the ‘Bugs quickly looked to build on their lead. Again holding the puck in the offensive zone, Tyrel Lucas got it free, where Daniel Pegoraro picked it up and found a streaking Joe Ori. Ori rifled a wrist shot just inside the far post behind St. Pierre for his tenth goal of the year, tying Chris Brassard for the team lead. That goal put the Mudbugs up 2-0, but then the tide would begin to turn. The Oilers found their legs in the second frame, tilting the ice in their favor and eventually finding the back of the net. On a Tulsa powerplay, Jeff Christian fed the puck in the slot to Warren McCutcheon, who scored to extend his goal streak to five straight games and cut the Bossier-Shreveport lead in half at 2-1.

The Oilers continued to get better as the game went on, controlling the play for much of the third period, but they never could get another puck past Ken Carroll to tie the game. Brett Smith's empty net goal with 41 seconds left finished off a 3-1 victory for Bossier-Shreveport, their third win in a row.

The Mudbugs finished the game going 0 for 5 on the powerplay, while Tulsa was 1 for 3 with the man advantage. The Oilers outshot the Mudbugs 34-28 for the night.

So with wins in all four games against the Oilers so far this year, Bossier-Shreveport will look to continue that success against the other Oklahoma team. Coming up on Friday night is the Mudbugs' first visit of the season to the Ford Center in Oklahoma City for a game against the Blazers. The Mudbugs earned a 5-2 win against the Blazers on December 4th in the first meeting of the year between the teams. Puck drop for Friday night's game is set for 7:35 pm, but tune in to hear the game on AM 1130 KWKH with the pre-game show set to start at 7:15.
