Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Tulsa Oilers scored three goals in a span of 1:28 in the second period to break open a scoreless game in their 6-1 win over the Memphis RiverKings Tuesday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. With the victory, the Oilers jumped ahead of the Wichita Thunder by one point for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Northern Conference. The RiverKings' loss clinched the Northeast Division crown for Bossier-Shreveport, meaning the RiverKings will be the third seed in the Northern Conference playoffs and have home ice advantage in the first round.

Both goaltenders, Tulsa's Bill Ruggiero and the RiverKings' Larry Sterling, made huge stops to keep the other team off the board in the scoreless first period. The Oilers' run of goals in the second began at 7:07 on a Mike Adamek wrist shot from the slot and ended when Bryan Lachapelle scored the first of his two goals to make it 4-0 5:23 later.

Ryan Campbell collected the only RiverKings goal, his 27th, at 17:34 of the second on the power play with the help of a Ryan Held assist. Tulsa scored twice in the third to round out the scoring.

Tulsa finished with a 36-32 shots advantage. Each team converting once with the man-advantage.

Bill Ruggiero stopped 31 of 32 shots to pick up the win. Larry Sterling started for Memphis and took the loss after giving up the first four goals. Kevin Schieve replaced Sterling in the second and stopped 13 of the 15 shots he faced.

The RiverKings finished the season series with Tulsa on a low note, going 0-1-1 in the last two games, but still ended up going 7-1-1 against a team that they hadn't won a season series from in four seasons.

The Oilers' and Thunder's battle for the last available playoff spot in the North could come down to the final day of the season. Each team has three games remaining and will meet at Wichita Sunday in the final game of the regular season.

The RiverKings, with three games remaining also, next play at Oklahoma City Thursday at 7:05 in the game that was iced out on January 13. They will then return home to host Youngstown on Friday and Bossier-Shreveport on Saturday to close out the season. Both games at the DCC this weekend will be 7:05 starts.

The CHL playoffs begin next week.
