SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) will be lining up with the South during the upcoming 2010-2011 Central Hockey League season. The RiverKings today (July 13, 2010) joined the CHL league office in announcing conference alignments and its home opener date.

The 18 teams competing in the CHL this season will be divided into two conferences, currently labeled as "North" and "South." These labels are temporary, however, as they will soon be labeled to reflect historical figures in the CHL. Those names will be announced at a later date.

The RiverKings have been assigned to play in the conference representing the Southern part of the CHL this season, a conference that includes the following franchises: Allen Americans, Arizona Sundogs, Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, Laredo Bucks, Mississippi RiverKings, Odessa Jackalopes, Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, Texas Brahmas, and the Tulsa Oilers.

The other conference representing the Northern half of the league map will include the following teams: Bloomington Prairie Thunder, Colorado Eagles, Dayton Gems, Evansville Icemen, Fort Wayne Komets, Missouri Mavericks, Quad City Mallards, Rapid City Rush, and the Wichita Thunder. The teams from Bloomington, Dayton, Evansville, Fort Wayne, and Quad City make up the group of franchises from the International Hockey League now affiliated with the CHL.

The CHL league office today also announced the home opener dates for each of the 18 teams. The first date of play in the CHL this season will be on Friday, October 15th, while the RiverKings' first home date at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven will be the next night, on Saturday, October 16th. Game time and the opponent have yet to be announced by the CHL office, along with the entire season schedule. Those details are expected to be announced in the near future.

Also scheduled to be announced later this week will be the length of the regular season and the league's playoff format.
