OKLAHOMA CITY - The two-time defending CHL champion Memphis RiverKings, playing in a city where they had won only five times in franchise history, garnered a crucial 4-1 victory before 6,944 fans at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City.

Despite being outshot 51-22, the RiverKings used three key second-period goals and a remarkable performance by goaltender Nathan Grobins to claim the victory and move their overall point total to 20 points on the season, tied for the lead in the CHL.

RiverKings center Jerry Gernander whacked a bouncing puck past Blazers goaltender Sean Conners to give the RiverKings a 2-1 lead in the second period. The goal, which was set up by new defenseman David Turon and forward Brad Mueller, broke the ice for the RiverKings, who would score twice more in the next five minutes.

Memphis drew first blood in the contest, as Mueller scored his first goal as a RiverKing this season on a breakaway chance down the right wing.

But Oklahoma City equalized the game a few minutes later, as forward Marty Standish capitalized on a power play situation and deflected a high puck past Grobins to make it a 1-1 game.

But Grobins, who was peppered with shots throughout the game, would not let another puck by for the remainder of the contest. The RiverKings gave him the offensive support he needed, as captain Don Parsons and forward Jonathan Gagnon both scored in the second period to give the 'Kings a cushion they would never need to use.

The win moved the RiverKings to 10-3-0 on the season, alone in first place in the Northeast Division with 20 points.

The RiverKings will be in action Saturday night at 7:30 pm, as Memphis matches up against the Fort Worth Brahmas.
