RiverKings battle but fall to Brahmas for seventh straight defeat
January 4, 2005 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
FORT WORTHâForth Worth's Jan Jas had a goal and two assists as the Brahmas sent the Memphis RiverKings to their seventh loss in a row 3-2 Tuesday night at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
The RiverKings came into the game knowing they had to stop the Brahmas' first line of Chad Woolard, Martin Paquet and Bryan Lundbohm. That line had combined for 27 points in the previous four games with Memphis. But, on this night, it was the second line of Jan Jas, Derrell Upton and Joey Bastien that came up with all three goals.
After a scoreless first period, Fort Worth took a 2-0 lead on goals by Upton and Jas. The RiverKings' Steve Margeson atoned for a turnover that set up the second Fort Worth goal with a goal of his own at 15:03. The rebound goal was Margeson's first of the season and cut the lead to 2-1.
Fort Worth took advantage of a power play to score and make it 3-1 at 19:11 on the second and we went to the intermission with that score. Memphis made it interesting again as Don Parsons tallied his 23rd of the season on a five-on-three power-play at 11:12 of the third period but that would end the scoring.
Larry Sterling made 24 saves to improve to 4-2-1 while David Lemanowicz made 23 saves in the loss to fall to 5-10-0. Shots for the game were even at 26-apiece.
The RiverKings return home for three games this weekend at the DeSoto Civic Center. The first of which is a rematch with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Thursday night at 7:05. The Mudbugs have been a major player in the recent struggles for the RiverKings with four straight wins.
