Jas, Bastien and Upton lead Brahmas to win over Memphis

Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
In the Fort Worth Brahmas first 15 wins this season, their top forward line--the "BMW Line" of Bryan Lundbohm, Martin Paquet, and Chad Woollard--has produced the majority of the team's offense. On Tuesday night, as the Brahmas won for the 16th time this season with a 3-2 victory over the Memphis RiverKings, it was the club's second line that did the scoring.
Wing Jan Jas, center Joey Bastien, and winger Derrell Upton combined for three goals and three assists to provide all the offense that Fort Worth would need to win for the fourth time this season over the RiverKings.
After a scoreless first period of play in a humid Fort Worth Convention Center, the Brahmas exploded for three goals in the second period. First, at the 11:50 mark of the second, Upton converted a nifty centering pass from Brahmas forward Aaron Davis for the opening goal of the game to put Fort Worth up 1-0. Then, less than two minutes later at the 13:41 mark of the second, Jas netted his 8th goal of the season when his long shot from the right side eluded RiverKings goaltender David Lemanowicz. Down 2-0, the RiverKings answered back with a goal of their own when Steve Margeson banged a rebound of Jeremy Goetzinger shot past Fort Worth goaltender Larry Sterling at the 15:03 mark of the second. Fort Worth, however, regained their two goal lead at 3-1 with just 49 seconds left in the period when Joey Bastien would score his first goal of the season, a powerplay goal off of assists from Upton and Jas.
In the third period, Fort Worth would lock down defensively, protecting their lead. Memphis made it interesting when winger Don Parsons scored his RiverKings team leading 23rd goal of the season on a powerplay with 7:48 left in regulation to draw Memphis to within 3-2. Sterling and the Brahmas then tightened up, and prevented Memphis from the game tying goal in the waning moments of the game.
Sterling won his fourth game of the season with a 24 save performance in net for the Brahmas. Lemanowicz took the loss for the RiverKings, stopping 23 of the 26 Fort Worth shots that he faced in the game.
The victory for Fort Worth snapped a two game home ice losing streak and improves the Brahmas record to 16-10-3 on the season. The Brahmas are now just four points behind Bossier-Shreveport in the race for the top spot in the Northeast Division.
Fort Worth will continue their hectic four game week on Friday night (January 7) at the FWCC when they host their I-35 rivals, the Austin Ice Bats. Game time will be 7:30 p.m. It will be Radio Shack Trading Card night, as the first 2,000 fans through the gates on Friday night will receive a free pack of Brahmas trading cards courtesy of Radio Shack.
