Riverhounds to Host 'Wear a Hat Day' on July 27 to Raise Money for Pediatric Cancer

Pittsburgh (July 25, 2012) - The Pittsburgh Riverhounds soccer team have announced that their game on Friday, July 27 will be designated as "Wear a Hat Day." The Riverhounds encourage all spectators in attendance to help support the fight against pediatric cancer, and wear their favorite hat to the game.
The event is designed to raise awareness of pediatric cancer, especially the effects of harsh treatments that children must endure, including chemotherapy and radiation. Cancer impacts all aspects of a child and family's life as they cope with the life threatening illness and harsh side effects of treatment - such as hair loss.
"The Riverhounds are proud to be involved with such a great cause," said Jason Kutney, CEO of the team. "Cancer is a disease that affects so many children in our community in one way or another, and the Riverhounds are happy to help raise awareness in any way we can."
The proceeds from ticket sales at the game will be donated to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation, which provides valuable support for treatment and innovative research at the hospital.
"Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation is pleased to partner with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and their fans in order to raise awareness of pediatric cancer. Together, we can let children know they are not alone in their fight," said Greg Barrett, President, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation.
A variety of events are planned in honor of the event, including a beach party theme. Entertainment will be provided by the Pittsburgh Timbeleza Samba Band. Prizes will be awarded to individuals flaunting the most festive beach attire. Beach sunglasses will be handed out at the beginning of the game. The game begins at 7:00 p.m.
