Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Riverhounds have signed forward Alejandro Aguilar to a one-year contract with a club option for the 2017 season. Aguilar joins the Hounds after competing this past season for both AsociaciÃ"n Deportiva Carmelita and Club Sport Cartaginés Deportiva S.A. of the Costa Rican Primera DivisiÃ"n.

"Alejandro is an experienced, proven striker," said head coach Dave Brandt. "He fits in a spot for us that we really have a need for and we think he'll fit in really well with the team."

Aguilar has competed in the top tier of Costa Rican soccer since 2010, where he began his career with Liga Deportiva Alajuelense - one of two clubs to never be relegated in Primera DivisiÃ"n competition. The forward's career there spanned five seasons, totaling 50 appearances and seven goals.

He was loaned this past season to Cartaginés and Carmelita, where he scored two goals in 15 appearances for the former and six goals in 20 appearances for the latter. Aguilar also competed for Carmelita in 2012-13, notching 20 caps and tallying a career-high 10 goals.

The Costa Rica native made his debut for his national club in 2013, facing Canada in an international friendly.

The club expects Aguilar, who will wear the number 37, to be available for this Saturday's home date against Charlotte. The Hounds will face the Independence at 7 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.
