Riverhounds Clinch USL Championship Playoffs Berth
September 7, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC officially clinched a berth in the USL Championship Playoffs for a fifth consecutive season tonight, extending the team's longest postseason run in club history.
The Hounds, who have a 15-7-6 record and are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference, had their playoff spot confirmed tonight without kicking a ball. The berth was clinched as a result of FC Tulsa's 2-2 draw against Louisville City FC.
By clinching, the Hounds join Louisville as the only two clubs to have qualified for the USL Championship playoffs each of the past five seasons, a group that could also include Phoenix Rising FC should they qualify out of the Western Conference this season.
The playoff berth also extends two remarkable career runs for head coach Bob Lilley. The Hounds' coach has never failed to reach the postseason, nor has he had a team finish below .500 in his professional coaching career spanning 22 seasons in Hershey, Montreal, Vancouver, Detroit, Rochester and Pittsburgh.
Ticketing information for potential home playoff matches at Highmark Stadium will be released in the upcoming weeks.
The Hounds host first-place Louisville at 7 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 10, which will be the club's Throwback Night and feature the induction of former head coach Gene Klein into the Hounds Hall of Fame. Tickets for the game are available through Ticketmaster or by contacting the Highmark Stadium Box Office at 412-865-GOAL.
