Miami FC News Release
Montclair, N.J. - The Miami Football Club hit the road after retrieving four points from a pair of home matches against Louisville City and Birmingham Legion. Miami FC's next opponent is New York Red Bulls 2. The two will clash at MSU Soccer Park on Friday night.
The Orange and Blue sit sixth in the table after a successful two-game home run that saw them add four points to their count. A 1-0 home win against LouCity and a one-all draw against the Three Sparks got Miami to 44 points, one point above Detroit City FC who has one game in hand.
Head coach Anthony Pulis and his side would have closed down the gap between them and Birmingham to just four points with a victory on Saturday night. Nonetheless, the two defensive powerhouses are separated by seven points.
One-all draw at home against Birmingham Legion
Pulis fielded the same players who faced Louisville City FC except for goalkeeper Connor Sparrow, who was replaced by Birthday boy Jake McGuire.
McGuire, who turned 28 on Saturday, stopped a penalty in the 16th minute of the game. He got down low to collect former Inter Miami CF striker Juan Agudelo's shot.
Winger Lamar Walker notched his first goal of his 2022 USL Championship campaign. The Jamaican struck a bouncing ball on the volley from the top of the 18-yard-box with power and precision past traffic and into the back of the net.
Birmingham scored an equalizer in the second half to bring the score even at one goal a piece.
Last time out against New York Red Bulls 2
Miami hosted NYRB2 on USL Championship opening day at FIU Stadium. Goals scored by winger Josh Pérez and Mark Segbers separated the Orange and Blue from the Dos Toros.
