Riverhounds and Kickers Battle To 1-1 Halftime Tie
June 2, 2006 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
The Riverhounds FC and the Richmond Kickers fought the conditions and each other on their way to a 1 to 1 tie. The game was called at halftime due to the less than favorable condition of the rain-drenched field.
With the down pour at Falconi Field the Riverhounds and Kickers struggled to take an early lead before conditions worsened. Richmond, who sat atop the USL second-division standings at the start of tonight' action, broke through first when forward Robert Ssejjemba knocked in a pass from midfielder Mike Burke at the 21st minute of the first half.
Donning their replica USA soccer jerseys, The HOUNDS® would respond in quick fashion with forward Mike Apple rocketing home a pass from defenseman Cody Bragg in the 28th minute to tie the score up at one.
Richmond tried to re take the lead by becoming physical which in turned garnered two yellow cards in the final 15 minutes of the first half. However the Riverhounds stood fast to both the Richmond physical play and the ever worsening conditions, holding the score at one heading into halftime.
Because of field conditions, the referees called the match at the half. The tie moves the Riverhounds overall record to 1-1-4, while the Kickers go to 4-1-2 on the season.
The Riverhounds next face against the Cincinnati Kings at Falconi Field on June 10. The game will be televised live on FSN Pittsburgh and carried on Fox Pittsburgh 970 am.
