Richmond Kickers News Release

RICHMOND, VA - (Friday, June 2, 2006) - The league-leading Richmond Kickers professional team is scheduled to play back-to-back road games this weekend, stopping first in Pittsburgh tonight, Friday, June 2nd before traveling to Cincinnati tomorrow, Saturday, June 3rd.

Having defeated the Pittsburgh Riverhounds by a 1-0 scoreline at home in May, the Kickers look to avenge the 1-0 home opener loss to the Cincinnati Kings on the road. The Riverhounds reside mid-table in the USL Second Division standings with a 1-1-3 record and six points while Cincinnati battles for top standings with a record of 3-2-1, three points out of first place. Last week, Pittsburgh battled the Harrisburg City Islanders to a scoreless draw while Cincinnati suffered a 4-0 loss to Wilmington.

The Kickers lead the league with a record of 4-1-1, 13 points and recently placed both defender Kelvin Jones and midfielder Matt Watson on the USL Team of the Week for leading the Kickers to the scoreless draw in Long Island last weekend. Goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale made eight saves to preserve his third shutout of the season. Returning home on Saturday, June 10th, the Kickers host the Charlotte Eagles at 7:00 p.m. at the University of Richmond Stadium. The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a free World Cup Restaurant Tour poster courtesy of Piccola Italy, Bandito's and Buffalo Wild Wings. The first 500 Pro Pass holders through the gate will receive an advanced release of the 2006 Richmond Kickers team poster. Present your Pro Pass at the Kickers home game on Saturday, June 10th to receive FREE admission and a brand new team poster.

Tim Brown Update

Kickers midfielder Tim Brown earned his seventh international cap after starting and playing 61 minutes of New Zealand's 2-0 loss to Hungary in Budapest on May 24th. Brown is currently on a 17-day European tour with the New Zealand National Team which includes official FIFA "A" internationals against Hungary (May 24), Georgia (May 27), Estonia (May 31) and Brazil (June 4). A pulled hamstring sidelined Brown as he was unavailable for selection for the 3-1 win in Georgia and the 1-1 draw in Estonia this week. Hoping to have recovered in time for the highlight of the All-Whites tour, the June 4th match up against World Cup favorites Brazil, he is expected back in the Kickers starting lineup in time for their next home game, Saturday, June 10th versus Charlotte.
