Rockford RiverHawks News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill. â The final Opening Night at Marinelli Field was a successful one for the Rockford RiverHawks. The RiverHawks scored in the first inning and led until the end of a 9-2 win over the Springfield/Ozark Ducks. The crowd of 4,244 was treated to an Aaron McEachran home run and postgame fireworks.
The RiverHawks took advantage of the Springfield pitchers' poor control. Four pitchers combined for 12 walks and five wild pitches, three of which scored runs. Starter Mike Schaefer walked the bases loaded in the first. He struck out Ben Fjelland for what would have been the third out had the pitch not been wild, scoring Doug Schutt.
The RiverHawks added four runs, three unearned, in the fifth inning. McEachran hit his first Rockford home run, a towering solo shot to right field, in the fifth. Schaefer (0-1) lasted 3 2/3 innings in his professional debut.
Rockford starter Frank James (1-0) scattered five hits in 5 1/3 innings of shutout ball.
Wednesday, the RiverHawks host the Ducks in a 7:05 p.m. game. The first 1,000 fans will receive magnet schedules, courtesy of Fox Sports Net and Insight Cable.
All games will be broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 â the Hub and at the team website. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 12th season.
